The planned mass burial was halted due to the controversy that surrounded the plan's unveiling in July.

Lagosians are being urged by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to be their brother's keeper.

According to Premarv Media, the Lagos State Government has halted its planned mass burial of the 103 bodies discovered following the October 2020 #EndSARS protests.
Gbenga Omotoso, the state's Commissioner for Information and Strategy, revealed this to the newspaper on Monday, October 9, 2023.

He stated that the planned mass burial was halted due to the controversy that surrounded the plan's unveiling in July.

According to Omotoso, the state administration planned to hold the mass burial soon, but it was postponed due to controversies at the time.

People now have the time and chance to check to see if their relatives are present."

It should be noted that the Lagos State Government resolved to perform a mass burial for the 103 victims in a leaked letter dated July 19, 2023.

The memo also indicated that the government had granted N61,285,000 for the victims' burial.

On Monday, Omotoso stated that the scheduled mass burial "remains suspended to give people ample time to prepare to find any relatives who may be among the corpses."

"It is to allow more time for identification as suggested when it was disclosed that the government was planning a mass burial for them," the commissioner went on to say.

"Up until now, nobody has shown up to identify any of the corpses," Omotoso added.

The administration, on the other hand, has opted to give citizens more time."

On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, the Lagos State Government argued that the 103 corpses were from incidents of violence that followed the shooting incident at Lekki, contrary to popular belief that the bodies were of peaceful protesters who were shot at by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate.
