THE BEST NIGERIAN MOVIE IN 2023

The exponential growth and exposure that Nollywood has had in the previous five years is undeniable. Previously, the business was recognized for the quantity of films produced each year rather than the quality. However, things have improved, and we can now boast about the great production quality of our films. We have seen amazing quality in many categories, including plot, cinematography, acting, SFX, editing, costume design, settings, and many more. Here are some of the films to which we can look forward.
THE TRADE
From start to finish, The Trade kept us enthralled and on the edge of our seats. Was it because of the plot? Or how about Blossom Chukwujekwu's mind-blowing performance? Or how about the amazing directing? The Trade, written and directed by Jade Osiberu, is a must-see if you haven't already. It is accessible via Amazon Pri me Video.
SUNDAY AFFAIR
This was the Valentine film of 2023, starring two of Nollywood's most powerful actresses, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Dakore Akande. A Sunday Affair, produced by Ebony Life and directed by Walter Taylaur, has everything we desire in a Valentine's Day film and then some. It had everything to make us blush, from corny romance to drama. Looking for a movie to watch to unwind? This is an excellent option.
SHANTY TOWN
We can't get enough of the six-part series! Brilliant acting, a compelling plot, startlingly accurate fight choreography, realistic special effects, and so on. Shanty Town has elements of a Hollywood secret agent narrative while still making it Nigerian. The plot was well-executed, the characters stayed with us for a long time, and people couldn't stop talking about it. If you haven't seen it yet, it's available on Netflix.
GANG OF LAGOS
You had to figure this was going to be on the list. Gangs of Lagos, which was released on Amazon Prime Video on April 7th, has many of us in a chokehold. From the script to the performances to the locales and characters, it is without a doubt one of the best films we have watched this year. The characters were so captivating that it was easy to become attracted to them fast, even the villains who everyone despised but loved nevertheless.
