ASAKE IS KNOCKED OVER BY THE SISTER OF A DECEASED CONCERGOER

Rachel, the late Rebecca Ikumelo's sister, has lambasted popular artist Asake for paying respect to the deceased at his Sunday concert in London.

Rebecca and Gabrielle Hutchinson, a security guard, both died after being injured during a crowd surge during an Asake event in December 2022.

On Sunday, Asake performed in the city again, paying tribute to his deceased admirers before beginning his set. He showed images and videos of Ikumelo and Hutchinson during the show.

He also encouraged anyone with information on the incident to contact the authorities.
Rachael, @Rachaeliku, took to X, formerly Twitter, to express her disapproval, tagging the homage as a "sorry excuse."

According to her, the singer has not spoken with their family since the incident.

"What a sorry excuse for a 'tribute' from @asakemusik," she wrote. My sister died at your event, and you haven't spoken to any of my family members since.

But you can do another concert in London in less than 9 months and show her videos as a 'tribute'? Rebecca Ikumelo, rest in peace."
Asake issued a statement following the unfortunate tragedy to express his condolences to the family.

"I am heartbroken to learn that Rebecca Ikumelo, who had been in critical condition since Thursday, has died."

"My heartfelt condolences go out to her family at this difficult time. Please keep her family in our thoughts and prayers.

"I have spoken with them and will continue to speak with them," he stated in the release.
When Twitter users pointed out to Rachael that the singer had reached out to her family, according to his statement, she explained that Asake did not ask her family's permission before uploading videos of Rebecca.

"My point is, he should not be using her videos or paying a 'tribute' without first seeking permission from my family." "I hope you're getting paid to do this for Asake," she wrote.

Asake was forced to cancel his sold-out December gig at O2 Academy Brixton due to large crowds, many of whom did not have tickets.

According to accounts, ticketless supporters attempted to break down the venue's doors, forcing the event to be cut short halfway through. Due to the surge, two people perished and dozens others were hospitalized.
