Toluige Olokoobi, the mother of Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, the little boy who inspired the viral "mummy be calming down" video, took her own life.

In 2020, Oreofeoluwa became an instant social media sensation after a video of him in tears from his mother's scolding went viral, with him confidently telling her to "calm down" and give him a "last chance."

The footage also inspired Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslim faithfuls and residents of the state, in which he urged them to remain calm in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

Following that, the boy and his family met with the governor, who praised their bravery and calm.

Oreofeoluwa was interviewed by several media outlets. He also stated that he wishes to become a police officer in order to combat corruption in Nigeria.

However, an X user revealed on Tuesday that Toluige committed suicide in Benin for unknown reasons.

The X user, who said he was at the scene on Monday afternoon, went on to say that Toluige had refused to share her problems with anyone before killing herself.

"The woman in the viral Mummy Calm down video has just committed suicide here in Benin," he wrote in an email.
"She refused to discuss her problems with anyone."She abandoned three children for her husband, including the well-known Mummy Calm Down boy.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo state police command, confirmed Toluige's death in a chat with BBC Pidgin, saying her husband had been arrested and detained for questioning.

According to Nwabuzor, the husband reported the incident to the police.

According to the police spokesperson, the husband "came home from the market when he saw his wife hanging with rope around her neck."
Nwabuzor stated that after her death was confirmed, she was rushed to the hospital and then to the mortuary.
