Ramatu Adamu, a young woman serving an 18-month sentence for stealing a pot, cooler, and wrapper, has been released by the Adamawa Jail Delivery Committee, which is chaired by the State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman.

On August 11, 2023, she was convicted and sentenced to one and a half years in prison by the Chief Magistrate Court in Numan for theft in a living place.

Ramatu was serving her sentence in the Numan Security Custodial Centre on Thursday, September 28, when the committee visited the facility and released her.

When she stood before the Committee, the inmate admitted to the crime and blamed it on hunger.

The food vendor, who is from the state's Shelleng Local Government Area, claimed she stole the things while visiting her sister in Numan.

She apologized for her actions and begged the committee to forgive her.

In response to her plea, the Jail Recovery Committee released her with a warning not to commit any future crimes.

The Chief Judge also handed her a N10,000 cash gift to help her continue her food-selling business.
