A tanker explosion at Koko junction on the Warri-Benin Highway in Delta State's Warri North Local Government Area is alleged to have killed at least 20 persons.

According to PREMARV MEDIA, the event occurred in the early hours of Sunday as a consequence of a spark from a malfunctioning vehicle when the individuals were scooping fuel that had spilled off the tanker.

A pregnant woman, children, and elderly people were discovered among the deceased.

According to an eyewitness who preferred anonymity, the truck crashed and spilled its contents on the road, and some people rushed to gather petrol despite warnings from drivers and security officers who swarmed the scene after learning the tanker had fallen.

"We tried to stop them, but the youths threatened to beat us up because it was their community."

They arrived in large numbers, bringing various containers, and when the explosion occurred about 12:15 a.m. this morning, we all ran.

"You can see dead bodies on the ground, some of them ran into the forest as I speak, some dead bodies have been removed, I counted over 20 bodies," claimed an eyewitness who identified himself as Yusuf.

PREMARV MEDIA arrived on the scene to find some dead victims on the ground, as well as burning cars, including the burst tanker.
