Alexander Adegbola Akande aka 9ice, a popular artist, has paid tribute to late afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
According to him, Fela provided a platform for Nigerian musicians to expose their abilities to the rest of the world.
In a recent interview with Sis Project Studios, the 'Gongo Aso' singer claimed this.
"Fela Anikulapo-Kuti gave us the platform, which is Afrobeat, to climb on top," 9ice stated.
We were attempting Afropop. We were attempting to perform afrobeats.
We were experimenting with several names. But Baba [Fela] already has something recognized by the world.
"I learned a lot from Afrobeat. Our forefathers are King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. And I'm glad to be here to emulate or follow what they've done."
